How do I learn to dive?
The best way to start is with a trial dive in our swimming pool to see if you enjoy diving and if you feel comfortable underwater.
Tauchsport Pape offers such diving courses every Wednesday from 7-10 PM and Sunday from 5-8 PM (or by individual appointment).
How does the trial dive work?
- Theory: What happens during diving and what needs to be considered
- Assembly of diving equipment, function, and application
- Explanation of necessary hand signals
- Entry into the water
- Breathing exercise on the surface
- Descending and equalizing pressure
- Swimming on the surface to deeper water
- Descending, safety exercises, emptying dive mask, air sharing
- Buoyancy exercises
- Surface exercise for dive safety
- Descending, practicing buoyancy, having fun
What is a diving course?
This usually refers to the beginner's course, the Open Water Diver.
If you feel comfortable underwater, you can start the Open Water Diver course.
Which diving association is the best?
Which is better, PADI or SSI?
- In a word: It doesn't matter which diving association you get your certification from.
- You learn to dive with an instructor/diving teacher, not with a diving association.
What matters is how many years he or she has been diving and working as an instructor and whether your diving instructor does it professionally or as a hobby.
- The diving associations have different pricing for their materials, but the certifications are recognized worldwide.
- We offer certification from 3 different associations so that every diver who comes to us can continue with the association they started with, or the one they like best. This way, Tauchsport Pape offers the widest range of courses, and you can get certified through SSI, PADI, and IANTD.
What is an Open Water Diver diving course?
- Your ticket to the underwater world
- With the Open Water Diver, you are allowed to dive up to 18 meters deep with another diver.
How does an Open Water Diver course work?
- You learn the theory online beforehand; Tauchsport Pape will activate you for this.
- On 3 dates, you will learn supplementary theory and complete 6 pool lessons until you feel comfortable underwater and have mastered all performance requirements.
- Over 2 days, you will do 4 open water dives in a lake and can apply what you learned in the pool.
- If you also master all performance requirements here, you will receive the certification (diving license).
How long does an Open Water diving course take?
- At Tauchsport Pape, 5 days, we are a bit more detailed.
(Often only 3 days abroad)
- 3 units/evenings in the pool and theory
- 2 days open water
What is a referral course?
- Theory units at Tauchsport Pape
- Pool dives with us in Hofgeismar
- Open water dives in the holiday country
- Certification in the holiday country
Our diving lakes in Germany are not warm enough in autumn and winter to dive with a wetsuit; this is only possible with a drysuit.
Therefore, outside of the season (May-October), we offer the Open Water Diver as a Referral Course (transfer to the dive center in the holiday country). We can recommend over 20 dive bases worldwide and are happy to provide travel tips if needed.
