Our Favorite Dive Sites Around Kassel

Here we present our favorite dive sites in the region. There is much to see and dive around Kassel. Diving in Germany is generally cold water diving. From May to October is also the diving season for the 7mm wet suit at water temperatures around 16-20 degrees. Visibility varies depending on the lake and month, from less than 1 meter to up to 30 meters.

Here are some of the dive lakes we present:

Messinghausen (Lake in the Mountain):

The body of water with the best visibility in our area, always between approx. 12 and 35 meters. Maximum depth 45 meters, temperature between 4 and 18 degrees. Daily entry fee 30€, filling service for air and Nitrox. Requirement: 100 dives, cold water configuration, dry suit recommended. Travel time from Kassel approx. 1 hour.

Several attractions have been sunk, such as an outpost boat, various tubes, vehicles, and several sturgeons can also be seen.

Edersee:

One of the most spectacular diving areas in the region. 2 diving zones where diving is allowed, no entry fee, air filling facilities on most weekends at the Edersee dive center. Waters for advanced divers, most dive sites are only interesting from 25 meters. Cold water configuration and dry suit recommended. Visibility between 50cm and 10 meters, best diving time is in spring. Travel time from Kassel approx. 45 minutes.

The Edersee is one of Germany's largest reservoirs, dammed since 1917. Three villages were flooded and the foundations of the village of Berich can still be seen today.

Especially in spring and summer, a lot of fish can be seen, such as perch, zander, pike, and catfish.

In autumn, the water level usually drops so that some of the ruins emerge, often referred to as Edersee Atlantis.

Singliser See near Borken:

A body of water ideal for training and beginners, with temperatures between 4 degrees in spring and 22 degrees in midsummer, visibility between 1 meter in summer and about 10 meters in spring. No base, no filling service. Maximum depth approx. 23 meters. Approx. 30 minutes drive from Kassel.

Access is via the paid parking lot, from there the entry point is about 100 meters away. Toilets are available but also subject to a fee. The entry point is signposted, but currently a bit muddy. There is a snack bar offering snacks and drinks.

Approx. 20 meters to the left of the entry point, a line begins that leads to various targets in the lake; there are 2 training platforms at 5 and 7 meters.

The lines connect various other sights, some sunken sculptures, a car, a pedal boat, and an upright bicycle.

There isn't much marine life, but there are freshwater crayfish and in the shore area or at night, some small pike can be seen. However, in the last 2 years, more and more small pike and sunfish have been seen, especially in the shore area and near the platforms.

Nordhausen:

Here you will find Sundhäuser See and Möwensee. There is an air and Nitrox filling service. Parking directly at the lakes, various marked entry points. Depths up to 41 meters. Dives for beginners and advanced divers are possible.

Various wrecks and other sights are submerged in the lake, such as a sunken village (Nordhusia); mainly perch, common carp, freshwater crayfish, and pike can be seen. Approx. 1.5 hours drive from Kassel.
