J2 Baselayer Set, consisting of top and pants
The J2 baselayer was developed for the US Deep Caving Team and their 2013 expedition of the Cheve Cave System in Mexico. With excellent antimicrobial performance through the use of silver-ion technology and outstanding moisture regulation from the unique material, this baselayer is designed for extended use under a drysuit.
Performance in Extremes
It is critical to keep skin dry, whether to stay warm or to prevent skin infections. The J2 Baselayer creates a dry air layer on the skin by wicking away moisture and sweat. Air is a better insulator than water, and the baselayer thus ensures better thermal protection. The J2 Baselayer System enhances performance with the proven and tested antimicrobial silver ions that have been integrated into the fibers of the fabric. This allows for long, repeated wear without the risk of skin infections - something that was crucial for the J2 expedition.
Silver ions were incorporated directly into the fibers during manufacturing, thus providing a lasting bacteriostatic and antifungal effect. These properties do not wash out. The silver ions inhibit the formation of bacterial cell membranes, thus preventing the growth of most bacteria in the fibers of the garment. This does not affect the naturally occurring bacteria on the skin itself.
Good performance when wet
The J2's moisture-regulating performance also comes into play when the fabric gets wet. Water is wicked away from the skin and, with the right combination of drysuit underwear, further transported through the fibers of the undersuit. Even in the event of a water ingress, J2 retains some of its performance.
J2 - Very fast wicking baselayer
The unique knitting technique allows for a maximum air layer directly on the skin with sufficient contact points for rapid moisture transport. This moisture regulation is a mechanical process and is guaranteed for the life of the garment.
