The Junior Open Water Diver is the entry-level course for recreational diving for your child aged 10-14. We recommend an age of 12 years and older. Upon successful completion, the Junior OWD allows you to perform recreational dives up to 12 meters deep with an adult dive partner. Upon reaching the age of 15, the diving license is considered an Open Water Diver certification.
In the Junior OWD, we offer all dives in a 1:1 ratio with a dive professional / instructor. We will go through the theory on-site again, adapted to the child's age, but your child may need your help with some terms during e-learning. Special equipment in children's and youth sizes is necessary for the Junior OWD; this is included in the course price (rental).
For the course, you book: course fee + e-learning kit (SSI or PADI) + swimming pool admission and, if you wish, the (physical) SSI certification card.

How the diving course works:
You register here with your preferred date and choose the online training materials you would like (SSI or PADI) and the swimming pool admission. Then you will receive an email from us that gives you access to the online theory. You can start with the diving theory beforehand and also take the final exam during the course.
On 3 dates (mostly evenings), our diving instructors will do scuba diving exercises with you in the swimming pool in Hofgeismar (where our dive shop is). You will learn safety procedures, how to move well underwater, and how to float (buoyancy). You only need to bring your swimwear; we will provide the equipment.
Once you are familiar with the diving equipment, have successfully completed all pool exercises, and passed the final exam, we will do a total of 4 dives with some exercises over 2 days in open water in a nearby lake. If you have met all the requirements for scuba diving, you will receive your certification (diving license).
If something doesn't go well, or you need more training, we will arrange additional individual appointments with you.

With SSI e-learning, you can start learning online for your course at home before your course. You register at mySSI, then you select Tauchsport Pape as your training center and contact us, then we will send you your teaching materials.
When registering for the course, we need your email address and your date of birth for registration with PADI and with the diving insurance.
We offer the OWD course from May to October, depending on weather conditions and water temperature in our lakes. During the winter season, we offer you the so-called Referral Course. We will do the pool lessons and theory and provide you with a referral. Then you can do the 4 open water dives in your holiday country and receive your certification (diving license) there. We can recommend dive centers all over the world.

During your diving training, you are insured free of charge through your diving instructor. To be able to dive, you must be healthy and be able to answer the health questions with no.

When diving, it is important to be able to read your instruments well. Your glasses do not fit under the diving mask.
If you have a significant visual impairment, you can order a diving mask with prescription lenses from us. If you wear contact lenses, you must close your eyes when you remove your mask underwater.
If you have specific diving interests, then take a look to see if there's a specialty course for you.
For example, if you'd like to photograph or film underwater, are interested in wrecks or sidemount, or simply want to improve your buoyancy. Maybe there's something there for you.
If you want to start a Tec diving course, you will definitely need a valid diving medical certificate and diving insurance (DAN, Aquamed, etc.). For the Advanced Nitrox or higher, you'll need the Deep and Nitrox certifications, and of course, the recommended equipment for the course. You can also rent some of this equipment from us.
